Fun Oldtime, Ragtime and Jugband Sounds from Woody Pines
Its been pretty harrowing and intense around here lately, so today its time for fun. How about some upbeat, oldtime Americana swing? Thats what Woody Pines does. He got his start in Oregon (with a name like that, figures, huh?) around the turn of the century with the popular jugband the Kitchen Syncopators. Since then hes led his own band; hes got a new ep, You Gotta Roll which seems like something fresh for the merch table when hes on the road (which seems to be pretty much all the time thats the new paradigm in music these days). And hell probably move a bunch of them: its a good party mix.
Woody Pines brings that low-key street corner style of performance to his stage show, but with all the polish and seasoned professionalism of a tour-bus-and-green-room rock stardom. Crackerjack musicianship goes a long way toward a bands greatness, but showmanship seals the deal. Pines, on stage, is an old soul and natural performer, storied and steeped in the best of American music. Alli Marshall Mtn. Xpress, Asheville, North Carolina
